Dan LeFevour could easily be the most underrated quarterback in the draft. He is a poor cover corner, and he is a better than average special team player I KNOW I can upgrade his position. What can you say about Keith Jardine ? He’s a nice guy and a great MMA personality, but what else? The Greg Jackson trained fighter could be doomed to face the firing squad at UFC 110 if he loses to young up and comer Ryan Bader. The winer of this game will most likely go on to win Group C.  Anyway, moving along, so I saw the new game of horse between Howard and James for the Big Mac or whatever nasty food they are trying to sell now, whatever floats the corrupt Disney boat. Then one of the greatest players of all time, not one of the greatest athletes, but one of the last True Great ball players, Larry Bird walks in and well takes what is rightfully his. Then on top of that the two D bags, and they seem like two of the coolest in the association, James and Howard question, “who was that?”  Seriously, has the NBA lost all integrity? I know it lags behind almost all other sports, except maybe European football (soccer), but this is one of the most racially biased and most disrespectful things I’ve ever seen. Feel free to comment; like I said not a fan of the NBA, I like real sports.. He would CRUSH everything. When he was off, though, he looked like the 2007 version of Craig Monroe.

Anythingpertaining to this movie will be bought by me! (THANKS TO RANDYORTON.COM) The movie is set in 1960s, and is basically about a bright 12-year-old boy whose English teacher (Harris) pairs him up on a project with the school?s biggest outcast and social pariah, Stanley (?Big Red?). On a team with actual structure and discipline, he could flourish into a nightmare for opposing coaches. Considering the players that Burnley has around their record signing that is not bad going. His two assists along with them six goals means that the Scotland native is responsible for a third of the league goals Burnley has scored.Burnley did not only get the same as Wolves for half the price but the also got a man for the future. P: Did I mention that Woods has won eight tournaments in a season a ridiculous three times? CP: No, but I don’t dispute that he is a phenomenal golfer. That is unquestioned. For the record, Holmgren said public today that the Flyers are not looking to trade for Dallas Stars veteran goaltender Marty Turco a trade that has been rumored for weeks.  Theyboast about last-minute commits that they never expected to get.People get upset when their program is not ranked highly in therecruiting rankings, or recruits choose to sign with other schools andnot the one they root for. They tab this as some sort of personalfailing on the coach because he was not able to get the recruit tocommit and stay committed throughout the recruiting season. What typical fans fail to understand is the fact that thoserecruiting rankings are not an accurate indicator of future glory, andcan be quite inaccurate in projecting the best players. High schoolkids are more unpredictable now more than ever, and they tend to flockto the schools that are winning at the time they graduate. We rarely see the kid who wants to play football for a school that isstruggling because he wants to help restore them to their previousstatus.

At the gate, Israeli security personnel searched him, his shoes and his hat. Once on board, he was “seated in the last seat away from the pilot’s cabin” and was under the “watchful eye” of the cabin crew. Israeli officials have already confirmed that on his El Al flight, Mr Reid was also seated in the back of the plane. The scout was enthusiastic about what he found in Israel. He offered details on how to bomb public transport, including the railway station in Haifa, in the north. He also noted that having a British passport was particularly helpful, saying, for example, that it had been enough to stop anyone searching his bags when he travelled from Bethlehem to Jerusalem. The computer reports says: “It appears that brothers with European passports are able to move about in Israel with great freedom and can be treated as Israeli.” There are no direct references to the World Trade Centre and Pentagon attacks of 11 September. But at one point, the report suggests that terrorists dress well when boarding aircraft and take seats in first or business class “to be near the pilot’s cabin without arousing suspicion”. Many of the hijackers involved in the September suicide attacks had first-class seats.Abdul Ra’uff, whoever he ever he was, left Israel and did similar reconnaissance work in Egypt that apparently left his debriefer unimpressed.
The report says a second trip to the country would have to be made.It remains possible that the similarities between the movements of the man called Abdul Ra’uff and Mr Reid are coincidental But that is hardly reassuring “If not Reid, who is it?” Mr Higgins asked last night. “That would mean there were two people out there with British passports we didn’t know about.” How they cracked the terrorists’ codeGetting to the heart of the documents contained in the al-Qa’ida computer  bought by chance by the Wall Street Journal’s reporter in Kabul  meant cracking the encryption of Microsoft’s Windows 2000 operating system installed on the machine, which had been used to protect the data. That is not a trivial task. Microsoft will only say that if you lose the password that controls entry to a Windows 2000 system, your best option is to remember it  or simply to wipe the machine and start again. And its Encrypting File System (EFS), which had been used to encode the files, is just as strong. But the files were too valuable for that. Instead, the team embarked on the task of breaking through the encryption, which jumbles the contents of the files so that even someone reading the individual bytes of data stored on the actual hard disk (rather than trying to access them through the operating system, which had locked them out) would simply find rubbish.Cracking the encryption meant finding the digital “key” that had previously been used to unlock it. That was not stored in any readable file on the machine, for it was itself encrypted. The only way to reproduce it was to generate the key from first principles: by trying various combinations of random bits and trying to decrypt the file with them, and seeing if it produced sense  or gibberish.Luckily, the PC had a version of Windows 2000 with an “export-quality” key  only 40-bits long, rather than the “US” quality, which being 128-bits long would have been billions of times harder to crack.Even so, it took the equivalent of a set of supercomputers running for five days, 24 hours a day, to find the key. But find it they did.The irony that the terrorists used a product made by one of the US’s biggest corporations to protect plans it was making against it may not be lost on an administration that recently relaxed rules on the export of “strong” encryption Tighter controls may follow.By Charles Arthur.
Yasser Arafat faced a storm of internal protest over the arrest by his security services of one of the most senior PLO officials in a desperate attempt to salvage his international position. PFLP officials said that Mr Saadat, who has been in hiding for months, was arrested after being “cheated” into attending a meeting on Tuesday with Tawfiq Tirawi, the head of Palestinian intelligence. They accused Mr Arafat – still barred by Israeli tanks and roadblocks from leaving the West Bank town of Ramallah – of caving in to pressure from Israel’s prime minister, Ariel Sharon, and the United States.Mr Sharon accuses the PFLP leader of organising the assassination of the hard-right Israeli cabinet minister, Rechavam Ze’evi, in October after the killing by Israel of the previous PFLP leader, Abu Ali Mustafa. Hundreds of Mr Saadat’s supporters marched yesterday in Ramallah, Bethlehem and Gaza City in angry protest at his arrest. The move appears to be an attempt by Mr Arafat to win back ground internationally. The so-called “quartet” – the European Union, United Nations, the US and Russia – have been urging him to throw militants behind bars, without charge if necessary.
Palestinian opposition groups believe this violates the principles of democracy and good governance that the US was pushing during the Oslo negotiations. Israeli government spokesmen treated the arrest with scepticism yesterday.Mr Arafat’s position deteriorated further yesterday as details emerged of the latest victim of violence. Avi Boaz, 71, was an American construction engineer who had lived in Israel and the occupied territories for 40 years. On Tuesday evening, he was abducted in Beit Jala and executed by guerrillas who pumped more than 20 bullets into his car.Tributes to Mr Boaz yesterday spoke of a man who crossed the gulf that divides both sides of the conflict. He had a Palestinian business partner, many Arab friends and built homes for Palestinians.
The finding – which suggests (as so many other astronomical calculations do) that there is less matter around than predicted – could mean that theories about the formation of galaxies will have to be revised.
Astronomers have known for years that there are areas of the sky where optical telescopes cannot find any visible matter such as galaxies, gas or stars. Space really does consist of large amounts of nothing, according to a new set of results from the European Southern Observatory (ESO). An international team using telescopes in Chile, Europe, Australia and the US have discovered that there are voids up to 100 million light years across that contain no matter at all. He was patient with the ball and took what the defense gave to the tune of over 300 yards passing. However, Jimmy’s youth reared i’s ugly head in the second half, where he wanted to respond to the Tar Heel’s last minute field goal at the end of the first half.On the very first play from scrimmage, Jimmy tried to force in a throw into triple coverage, rather than throw the ball away and living to play another down.Result: six points going the other way. It’s often those mistakes that come back to haunt you. The brewer has a joint venture with Carlsberg in the former Soviet Union and is viewed as an important driver of future profits growth at the company given waning beer consumption in the West. Credit Suisse First Boston does not believe it will materially alter the company’s valuation. According to Altera, the situation is at its worst in Japan and Europe. The bearish comments came from the United States semiconductor players Altera and Xilinx and not surprisingly also hit chip stocks in London. ARM Holdings fell 1p to 103.25p, Imagination Technologies dropped 1p to 66p, CSR gave up 2.5p to 353.5p and Wolfson Microelectronics lost 6.5p to 124p.
Xilinx, which makes semiconductors for mobile phones, led the way with the bad news, telling investors on Wall Street that its third-quarter sales could fall by as much as 8 per cent.
Meanwhile, its peer Altera warned that fourth-quarter revenues are likely to slide by up to 12 per cent. It complained that mobile phone makers are suffering from a lack of demand and now have stockpiles of chips. The technology sector was engulfed in a sea of red yesterday as traders were shaken by a series of profits warning from across the Atlantic. Some investors also do not like Google’s dual class voting structure or its three-person executive team, made up of its two founders and its chief executive, Eric Schmidt. Some argue that there are not enough directors with media or advertising experience in a company that seems to cherish computer wizardry over and above most other skills.Google’s senior people themselves have also not helped to shore up confidence in the company’s share price. Its three most senior people recently said they would sell about 16.6 million shares over 18 months.
That will net Mr Page and Mr Brin about $1bn each, while Mr Schmidt will take home in the region of $370m.While almost no one doubts Google’s business is one of the very best to have come out of the technology boom of the past decade, now might not be the time to buy into its remarkable story.. Underlining how precarious expansion abroad can be, Google has had problems with the rollout of its online news service in China, which some attribute to the possibility that the country’s governing regime cut off access to links deemed to be overly critical. While Google is beginning to offer other services, critics also point out that it is far less diversified than Yahoo!, which is seen as more of a “portal” bringing together a range of businesses.Another area of concern is over the corporate governance of Google, with onlookers fearing that its rapid growth is outpacing its ability to create a proper infrastructure. This would trigger ads on relevant people’s computer screens when they use the search site.Google has also recently widened its proposition by adding email news alerts which can be sent to customers’ in-boxes and, as of this summer, a service called Picassa which allows people to send pictures electronically.Yet there are clearly risks. Google remains highly exposed to the health of the advertising market, which is cyclical. It is also paid by advertisers only when people actually click on their online banners, making the revenue stream precarious if consumers suffer a crisis in confidence and want to cut back on spending. The foreign market for advertising to accompany searches is projected to have considerably further to grow, but Google is vulnerable to possible problems with political and business environments. Fans of the company argue that putting so much emphasis on investment is not just about keeping this part of the business in its first-class position, but also thinking of different ways to use the technology. One major project at Google’s headquarters is to take its relationship with advertisers further. If a company has a backlog of a particular product and wants to do a sales blitz on in certain geographical areas and to certain types of customers, Google is working on a system whereby retailers could alert it.

The one that came out in 1996 certainly looked like one. “It was unpleasant because I had worked with these guys for 20-odd years and I could see them slowing going out the factory gates.”Mr Smith said: “It was a sad story but there were many good memories.”‘Matchbox Memories’ is at Hackney Museum,1 Reading Lane, London E8, from 16 March until 28 August Telephone: 020-8356 3500. “Had Matchbox looked to the East earlier and more positively it could have lasted longer,” he says. Mr Smith says: “Once the cashflow starts to slow you find that the banks are not willing to help you through a difficult period.”Mr Mills, who is now chief product development manager at fellow toymaker Corgi Classics, believes if Lesney had moved the labour-intensive products to the Far East sooner to take advantage of cheaper wages, it could have kept the less labour-intensive items produced in the UK.After Matchbox folded the brand was bought by Universal International of Hong Kong and Mr Mills was responsible for moving Matchbox production first to Macau and later to Shanghai and Bangkok.
When the company won the Queen’s Award for Industry in 1966, every employees was given a present to commemorate the achievement. But it came to an end in 1982 when the firm was forced into liquidation as 25 per cent inflation and a 15 per cent surge in the value of the dollar made its products too expensive for its key markets. They laid on a fleet of 30 buses to bring workers to the factory, ran an apprenticeship scheme and set up a non-contributory pension fund that former workers are still drawing on. He was an engineer inside and out and he wanted perfection, which was nice.”On the dashboard they had all the clocks and dials which you would only notice if you really looked. A lot of effort went into making it so the finished article was very pleasing to see.”When a rival produced the Hot Wheels range that easily outpaced the traditional Matchbox, Lesney had a new range of Superfast cars and racing track within a matter of weeks.Mr Wood says: “Jack got the tools off the production line and had them cut for finer axles and smaller plastic wheels — it was blood, sweat and tears with everyone pulling together.”At one point the company erected a 100-metre racing track through the factory to test the cars — some of which were clocked at 70mph.The owners appear to have treated their staff with as much attention as the toys. As much attention went into the research and design of a toy car as big automakers — at least back in the 1970s — spent on producing their latest vehicles.Matchbox experts would travel to any place in the world to get the exact details of a car. They would take hundreds of measurements and several photographs, which would be handed over to the draughtsmen who took a month to produce a full blueprint. This drawing was used to make a detailed 12-inch resin model. This was then used to make a metal mould with more than 300 separate parts.Graham Woods, who worked in the toolmaking division in the 1970s, recalls it took two years to produce a model of the USAF Tomcat plane.
“The end costs of the toy was £15,000 and as they were selling for about £1.20 it took a lot of sales to make up the cost.”He recalls Mr Odell used to patrol the shopfloor, at one point intervening in the way he was cutting the passenger seat cushion — a one-inch piece of material — for a Model T Ford: “He said he wanted it deeper as he felt it did not look as if you could sink into it, so he started cutting it himself until he said ‘that’s what I want’. As Len Mills, former tooling and engineering manager, recalls: “It was like a family. Lesney was not so much a job as a way of life.”Such was the cult surrounding the brand that Lesney produced a hardback children’s book, Mike and the Modelmakers, telling the story of an American boy brought to Britain by his father who wants to show him the “world’s largest car maker”.The launch of an exhibition commemorating Matchbox which opened this month attracted scores of former workers to hear Mr Odell and Leslie Smith recall the glory days of the 1969s and 1970s.Much of the charm was generated by the care that went into producing the cars and trucks — which might appear astonishing to parents used to buying today’s plastic toys. He made the first miniature steamroller for his daughter because her school insisted that pupils could only bring objects to school that were small enough to fit into a matchbox. All her friends wanted one and the Matchbox brand was born.At its peak it had 14 factories worldwide making more than a million cars a day and was one of the largest employers in Hackney. The company was set up by two school friends returned from the Second World War, Leslie Smith and Rodney Smith, who set up an industrial diecast business in 1947 in a condemned pub. They combined their names and £600 of savings — £14,400 in today’s money — to form Lesney Products but it was not until 1953 that they ventured into toys, making a five-inch model of Queen Elizabeth II’s Coronation coach. But it was the arrival of Jack Odell, an engineer, that changed the history of the company — and model car manufacture in the UK.
Toyota’s market capitalisation is greater than that of GM, Ford and DaimlerChrysler combined. So Toyota can do what it wants when it wants because it has all the technology, talent and cash it needs You have been warned.. For anyone of a certain age the name Matchbox brings back a golden era of toys — hand-designed models built exactly to scale with Made in England stamped proudly on the chassis. Toyota faces a similar problem in Europe, but there are no plans to introduce Scion here. The posh Lexus marque is a big hit with US buyers, but is a failure in Europe, selling 22,000, half of which are bought by Britons.Toyota’s deft business planning has made it into the world’s the most powerful vehicle maker, with estimated cash reserves of £17bn. Its return on sales is more than 8 per cent; most American and European companies would be happy with half that. It initially misread the booming market for pick-up trucks in the US by selling under-powered V6s The company now offers mighty V8 pick-ups as well.

Lou Macari, the Celtic manager, wants to enter the transfer market before tomorrow’s Scottish League deadline – if the Parkhead chief executive, Fergus McCann, agrees to loosen the purse strings.
Macari wants to spend around pounds 1m on Portsmouth’s Republic of Ireland midfielder, Alan McLoughlin, and the Swansea City winger, Jason Bowen of Swansea. However, Macari knows that Celtic are not yet out of the financial mire, despite McCann’s recent boardroom coup. Full houses in the first round are Germany’s games in Chicago, Ireland’s in New Jersey and Orlando, Italy’s in New Jersey and Washington and Argentina’s in Boston. Turnover was again light, reaching only 394.5 million shares. A Nasa spokesman yesterday described the experiment as ‘probably the most fraught with unknowns than any we’ve done before’.The aim of the 30-hour experiment is to generate an electric current along the tether, measure its characteristics, then pull the satellite in again for a return to Earth. As for taking assertions at face value, she raises this to an art form.Despite the gush, something of these monarchs still shines through. There are also bright hopes for the future in the way that Glyn Charles, Adrian Stead, Andrew Beadsworth and Andy Hemmings tackled so positively the job of racing the one-tonner, GBE International. Yet it pushes its way on to the news pages in a way most industries would adore to be able to do: in terms of impact it punches far above its weight.Part of the explanation for this is the very simple one that fashion is showbiz: it is not selling frocks or scents, it is selling dreams. With horror I realised that I was walking over thousands of pounds in the tiled shape of Carl Andre’s 144 Magnesium Square (1969).

But Kamanda Laugh (2.40) looks an interesting recruit for his flourishing stable.. Monday is the closing date for applications to coach the senior men’s and women’s Great Britain teams in September’s European ‘B’ Championships, at the start of the most important six-year period in the sport’s history leading up to the 2012 London Olympics.
The sport’s international governing body, the FIBA, has made it clear that the home nations will not be given a place at the Games unless they hit the mark competitively. England’s men and women each won bronze at last month’s Melbourne Commonwealth Games, but that will not cut as much ice as the combined British teams progressing through the European ‘B’ Championships to join the leading nations in the full championships in 2009.
In September the British men have home games against the Netherlands and Belarus and travel to Slovakia and Albania. His stamina has not really been tested over 10 furlongs round Lingfield and he will be ideally suited by dropping back to a mile. Andr?abre also saddles an unexposed type in the Dubai Duty Free Fred Darling Stakes, but Nasheej (3.15) will set a decent standard if sufficiently forward for her reappearance. Her stable also provides an interesting candidate for the Bloor Homes Spring Cup in Red Spell, who is well treated on his improved form on the all-weather. On the other hand, he did have a gruelling campaign at two and may not have truly stayed the seventh furlong when fourth in the Dewhurst Stakes.Better value may rest with Reve Lunaire (3.50), who beat a subsequent listed winner on his only start at two but failed to cope with heavy ground on his reappearance.
He comes here fresh after sitting out Cheltenham and Aintree, having shaped as though this kind of marathon would suit when fourth to Innox in the Racing Post Chase. The new champion trainer is finishing the season with a fitting flourish and Ladalko (3.30) can apply icing to the cake. The star turn on the card is Monet’s Garden(2.20), whose exuberant jumping should justify the billing of the Ashleybank Future Champions’ Novice Chase. As for those bashful Flat horses, the vogue for avoiding the trials is heightened in the case of the Lane’s End Greenham Stakes by the fact that it falls this year a bare fortnight before the Stan James 2,000 Guineas. Rather like his stablemate, Killybegs, who won at Newmarket on Thursday, Red Clubs had his limitations exposed when raised in class as a juvenile but he remains an eligible favourite, granted the slick early form of his yard. His talented young rider’s claim could prove precious, but none of the jockeys will be on level terms in a race like this until Ruby Walsh’s mount is obliged to carry a penalty.Walsh rode Ladalko to win over hurdles at this meeting last year off 135 and his rating over fences remains just 2lb higher. He was off the bridle a long way out but stayed on dourly and his jumping is far more reliable than that of the third, Darkness, who is worse off at the weights.Stamina is also the bedrock of All In the Stars, who has been trained for this race since the Hennessy Gold Cup in November, when he might have finished even closer than fifth but for a couple of clumsy errors. In contrast with Aintree, where it was easy to eliminate half the field, very few can be discounted at Ayr, but a valid shortlist might comprise Idle Talk, All In The Stars and Ladalko.
Novices have a fine record in this race and Idle Talk excelled on only his fourth start over fences when chasing home Star De Mohaison – impressive since at Aintree – in the Royal & SunAlliance Chase at Cheltenham.
Next week several Cheltenham winners, notably War Of Attrition and Brave Inca, seek to add to their laurels at the Punchestown Festival, while the Gala Casinos Scottish National is so competitive that it wrests top billing today from the final Guineas trials down at Newbury. Gary Imlach’s book, My Father and Other Working Class Football Heroes, won the 2005 William Hill Sports Book of the Year award. In fact he was, like Tyson this last weekend, a shell who had come into the ring slim, but shaped not by the work and the habits of a champion but a course of diuretics. Tyson’s trainer swore that his man had worked to find condition, but of course it is impossible to put back certain qualities that have fled forever, and as early as the third round you could see that Tyson was running near to empty. You could see that if McBride did indeed belong to the lowest tier of fighters, he had enough courage, enough life, to prevent any extension of the Tyson myth.Tyson landed spasmodically but not with the force to dislodge McBride from his belief that he could wear down the fighter he had idolised in his youth, and by the third round it was becoming clear that he had the means to become the third man to beat the former undisputed champion in four fights. When Danny Williams did it in Louisville last summer – two years after Lennox Lewis had delivered what should have been a final beating in Memphis – the meaning of the result was obscured to some degree by an injury to Tyson’s knee. Here in Washington there was not a wisp of such a smokescreen. Ali’s last significant fight was against Larry Holmes, a great champion, in 1980, and then there surrounded him some of the fantasy that has accompanied Tyson’s most recent visits to the ring. There was a belief that Ali could conjure some of the best of his past, and it was encouraged by the fact that he looked so well.
In that sixth round which will have to be his final statement as a fighter he was deducted two points for a head butt. He also attempted to break McBride’s left arm, as he had that of Botha in another desperate moment. Tyson made no attempt to disguise his intent and later he admitted, “Hell, I was desperate to win.” Then he added: “I have no interest in fighting now, I don’t have the heart for it I’m broke but I have wealthy kids. I don’t care what happens to me – I don’t want anyone’s sympathy.”At the end of this month he will be 39, tradeless and rootless, and he now talks airily of missionary work in places like Bosnia or Rwanda but who, you had to wonder, will attempt to save his soul? Certainly he seemed like a man beyond salvation as the life drained out of him in what surely had to be his last fight.Poignantly, Muhammad Ali was at ringside and at least one parallel between his and Tyson’s last stand was inescapable as the latter’s fury ebbed quite relentlessly under the often clinging grasp of McBride.
It had worn him down over those years when his talent became a fossil. What was left in the ring here just a few blocks from the White House was the sour residue of decline; bitter and largely self-induced decline. The Tyson seen declaring that he was the baddest man on the planet, the boy declaring that his attack was impeccable and his defence impenetrable, belonged in another lifetime.History hadn’t caught up with Tyson in the nearly full MCI Center in the hulking shape of McBride. When he said that no-one should cry for him, he added that his career had really been over since 1990.Within an hour of his defeat Tyson was being portrayed on American television as a suddenly historic figure – the whole lurid lurching of his life was being replayed, but the reality was of course different. Tyson had had enough of his desperate attempt to pay his bills – they still amount to the best part of $30m.

Now, rum is looking to be recognized as thenext great tasting premium spirit.
Appleton Estate, Jamaica’s oldest rum distillery, is set to break a new printcampaign aimed at attracting premium scotch and whiskey drinkers, while alsomaking it clear that Coke, pineapples, and other elements are not necessarilypart of its ascent to the top shelf. “We`ve seen a heightened consumer demand for a more flavorful and complex tasteexperience, which plays perfectly to our Appleton Estate distilled rums,” saidJohn Pennacchio, director of spirits at Kobrand Corporation. “We feel thiscampaign serves notice to scotch, whiskey and other drinkers that rum – andAppleton Estate Rum in particular – is as sophisticated as those classicentities, and offers a depth of flavor that should be savored and appreciated.Appleton Estate Reserve is a luxury offering that is on par with such classicpremium dark spirits as single malts and small batch bourbons.” Carrying the tagline “Sip Up,” the print campaign looks to establish AppletonEstate as the standard of the premium rum category. The campaign, created by theNew York advertising agency DeVito/Verdi, breaks in the June issue of suchmagazines as Men’s Journal, GQ, Esquire, Out, Fast Company, Black Enterprise,Robb Report and Wired. One ad asks: “Looking for a good scotch? May we suggest a rum.” Anotherdeclares: “It spent 12 years in a barrel. The last thing it wants to see is theinside of a blender.” And yet another states: “The aroma of butterscotch, orangepeel and vanilla should enter your nose. Not a cocktail umbrella.” “Now is the time for rum to be perceived by consumers to be a sophisticatedadult beverage choice,” said Ellis Verdi, president of DeVito/Verdi.
“It`s abouttime that a brand looked to shed the drink`s clichéd image of frozen drinks andCaribbean-night-themed parties. This campaign makes it clear what our goal isand who we`re going after.” A number of other print ads in the campaign feature an unexpected visual and theline “The rum that needs nothing” to convey the message that this rum has thecredentials to be enjoyed without fruit wedges and mini umbrellas, or pouredinto blenders. “We realize that many people will continue to enjoy rum as they always have, sowe`re only too happy to oblige them with a premium product that will certainlyimprove the classic rum concoctions they favor,” said Pennacchio. In addition to magazine print ads, the campaign will also include uniqueout-of-home ads, internet advertising and interactive digital elements that helpreinforce the essence of the brand Television commercials are being consideredfor 2010. Goran Persson, the Swedish Prime Minister, said: “Europe has moved to the left.”He said it was up to the EU and US to maintain economic growth to help prevent recession. “They are the two forces in the world which can actually resist recession. When Lionel Jospin, the French Prime Minister, put forward these ideas earlier this month, Britain said they were unnecessary.
But after the British U-turn Mr Blair said he would only agree to the proposed growth plan if it increased EU competitiveness and did not risk a return to high inflation.Britain’s scepticism was swept aside as Germany, France, Italy, Sweden and Portugal threw their weight behind moves to breathe new life into Europe’s economy. Though no university officially makes allowance for an applicant’s background, some Oxbridge colleges say they bear it in mind when deciding whether to admit students. The Cardiff study’s main purpose was to examine the difference in academic achievement at degree level between the sexes. It found women performed better on average but were less likely to get a First than men. Mature students and those with no formal qualifications, as well as those at comprehensive schools, tended to get better degrees..
Earlier research carried out at Oxford University in the Eighties suggested state school pupils admitted to the university were more likely to get good degrees than their independent school counterparts. At present, Oxford and Cambridge are campaigning hard to attract more comprehensive school pupils. Only about half the undergraduates at the two universities come from state schools. Cambridge has said that it would like to increase the figure to 65 per cent, the proportion of those who get three grade As at A-level who attend state schools. When all these factors were taken into account, it found that comprehensive pupils outperformed independent school pupils. The type of school a pupil had attended was one of the strongest factors determining whether he or she achieved a first.
